The Award

Our very own Sabrina Chiodo was recently awarded The Elaine Hector award at the 2019 APHEO (Association of Public Health Epidemiologists in Ontario) Conference in Kingston, Ontario. The conference, which focused on fostering partnerships and moving data to action in our rapidly changing public health landscape, recognizes and celebrates students engaged in applied public health epidemiology, who help to shape the future of public health in Ontario. The Elaine Hector Student Award recognizes the best student abstract at the APHEO conference.

Research Project

Sabrina Chiodo is a third year Health Sciences student at Wilfred Laurier University who completed a second practicum placement with the Population Health Analytics Lab where she worked on a project titled “Agreement between area- and individual-level income in a population-based cohort:  Implications for population health research” with Emmalin Buajitti and Laura Rosella. In research, area-level measures are commonly used as a proxy for missing individual-level data. The impact of area-level approximation on observed socioeconomic patterns is unclear. This project aimed to determine the level of agreement between individual- versus area-level measures of socioeconomic status within the context of premature mortality risk. Congratulations on this well deserved achievement Sabrina!
