We are thrilled to announce that Professor Laura Rosella was the recipient of the 2025 Mid-Career CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health (CIHR IPPH) Trailblazer Award. The CIHR IPPH Trailblazer Award recognizes early, mid and senior career researchers who make exceptional contributions that promote population and public health for Canadians and citizens around the world through evidenced-based health policies as well as interventions.
Professor Rosella’s research advances public health data applications by recognizing that people are part of a social-ecological system with broad determinants influencing their health trajectories. Using novel data sources and methods, she develops new ways to capture this complexity driven by an interplay of social, economic, environmental, and biological factors that affect systems, communities, and individuals. Her research has directly shaped health system planning and decision making, particularly in chronic disease prevention, reducing avoidable mortality, and supporting healthier communities. Her work not only advances the health of populations, but also inspires colleagues, students, and future leaders through her deep commitment to mentoring and training.
“This award means so much to me and to all the students and research staff at the Population Health Analytics Lab. This award recognizes our collective impact and deep dedication to tackling complex public health challenges, making our work incredibly rewarding as we strive toward a healthier future.”
