Congratulations to Population Health Analytics PhD student Vinyas Harish for being awarded Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)!
Vinyas Harish is a fourth year MD/PhD student with the Population Health Analytics Lab. He is under the supervision of Drs. Laura Rosella and Kamran Khan. Vinyas’s research will explore the role of digital epidemiology in responding to pandemics and promoting resilient health systems. His aims span: a qualitative study on governance between health organizations and private technology companies, an observational study on the effectiveness of lockdowns across communities of different social vulnerabilities, and the development of a machine learning-based, population risk tool for COVID-19 related hospitalization, ICU admission, and death. The outcomes of his work will inform how health systems can leverage digital data and computational models to better prepare for and respond to emergencies yet to come.
We look forward to watching Vinyas make important contributions to public health systems throughout his PhD studies! Congratulations!
