Ontario Minister of Research, Innovation and Science, Reza Moridi, met with University of Toronto faculty members at the Kelley Laboratory last Friday to announce the province of Ontario’s support of 62 research projects here at U of T.
The $25 million investment in U of T’s world-class research marks a commitment to fighting global challenges within the science fields, and is part of a larger government plan to create jobs, grow the economy and help people in their everyday lives.
Dr. Laura Rosella received the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Science’s small infrastructure fund, which contributed to the construction of her Population Health Analytics Laboratory (along with funding from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and the John R. Evans Leaders Fund). Active since 2015, this funding will extend Dr. Rosella’s work on developing new approaches to informing prevention strategies for chronic diseases.
This chronic disease prevention project involves linking multiple population-based data sources to create novel population risk tools capable of determining which preventive approaches will yield the greatest benefit in terms of reductions in chronic disease incidence and prevalence, and costs to the health care system. Please see our research page for more information on Dr. Rosella’s work with population risk tools.
