Closed Funding Opportunities: Data Science Interdisciplinary Research Cluster

The DLSPH Data Science Interdisciplinary Research Cluster is pleased to announce seed funding grants to support initiatives engaging multidisciplinary teams of researchers and partners to catalyze new and emerging research in data science and AI to improve population health and health system performance. Funding is available for up to four (4) projects.

Priority Funding Announcement – Children and Families Priority Funding Area (November 24, 2020):

In addition to funding for 4 projects, we are delighted to announce a partnership with the Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Children to provide additional priority funding to the DLSPH Interdisciplinary Data Science Seed Grant program, in order to support data science for population health applications with a specific focus on children and their families.  Applicants who wish to be considered for this opportunity are encouraged to review the Leong Centre website to learn about the centre and its research priorities.

Interested teams should apply through the Data Science Interdisciplinary Research Cluster funding opportunity, due December 14th, 2020.   Upon submission, the evaluation committee will flag applications focusing on children and families to be considered for this Leong Centre priority.

Budget:

Up to $20,000 for one year of funding

PI Eligibility:

  • The lead PI must be eligible to hold tri-council agency funds (e.g., CIHR, SSHRC, NSERC)
  • Researchers can only be PI or co-PI on ONE submitted application. Researchers can collaborate on multiple submissions
  • One PI must have an appointment with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health
  • Priority will be given to project teams that are interdisciplinary and include PhD students and/or post-doctoral trainees
  • Applicants are encouraged to have PhD and post-doctoral trainees apply as a co-PI

Submission Process:

Applications including all supporting documents saved in PDF format are due by email to pophealthanalytics.dlsph@utoronto.ca by 5pm on Monday, December 14, 2020. Please include the subject line as “Data Science Seed Funding Application”. Submissions must include the following:

  1. Completed application form available here.
  2. Abbreviated CV of co-PIs (maximum of 3-pages). A sample template is available here.
