Geospatial Data Visualization Challenge

 
In February 2023, Esri Canada and the DLSPH Data Science Interdisciplinary Research Cluster co-hosted a geospatial data visualization challenge. Six teams of UofT students assembled to create innovative, engaging, and immersive stories about key public health issues using Environics and other open data sources. Teams submitted an ArcGIS Storymap as their final data visualization product.
 
Teams were judged on the following criteria:
•Overall idea, creativity, and innovative public health solution
•Data, analytic, and – most importantly – geospatial approach
•Data visualization & communication
 
Below are the final products for our six teams:

Team Name: The Covariates

Members: Jonathan Sinn, Rachel Ma, Nicholas Chu, Anne Campbell, & Gabriel Tjong

Mission Statement: To demonstrate the severity of child food insecurity in specific areas across Toronto and to put forth recommendations on how to address this public health crisis.

Mission Statement: To investigate the association between self-rated community belonging and sociodemographic variables in Toronto, Ontario.

Mission Statement: A geospatial analysis of the opioid epidemic in Toronto, associated risk factors, and areas to target for action.

Mission Statement: Understanding the Density of Healthy Food accessibility and its Impact on Obesity related health outcomes in the Greater Toronto Area.
