Gemma Postill is an MD/PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, under the co-supervision of Dr. Laura Rosella and Dr. Barbara Haas. Gemma completed her undergraduate at Western University in One Health, which inspired her to become a clinician-scientist by highlighting the intersection of research and medicine as well as the need to take a systems-level approach to healthcare given the many factors that influence health. Interested in the intersection of the social determinants, health, and technology, Gemma is using population health data, geospatial analysis, and machine learning to study both how and why long-term trauma outcomes in older adults vary across regions in Canada. Ultimately, her research will help shape policies and strategies that can improve trauma outcomes and eliminate disparities in trauma care amongst older adults across Canada.
